March 23rd - Day One Conference: Entering the french legal market

This breakfast event is being held on March 23 from 8-10 a.m. at the Yale Club of New York with Societe Generale and Orrick

The French legal market reached $17.8 billion* in 2010 with considerable work in corporate restructuring, government-funded large infrastructure and energy projects, and other sectors. With only 36,000 lawyers in a country of 61.3 million, France represents a tremendous opportunity for U.S law firms. As some global firms have discovered, there is more to establishing a legal practice in France than meets the eye. French lawyers historically have had a fierce sense of independence, with law firms traditionally acting as sociétés with shared resources, as opposed to formal partnerships—an attribute that has changed over time. There is also less specialization than is common among foreign firms in the market, which represents a potential opportunity for outsiders. Entering the French legal market requires strategic vision, an understanding of cultural differences in the practice (and business) of law, and insight into how best to partner with French firms to compete for specific clients. Consero Group LLC is honored to partner with Day One’s Olivier Chaduteau to present for discussion these and other issues central to any decision to enter the French legal market.
